My glamorous life in all of its utter ridiculousness

It’s the Sea Calling! October 24, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — unbleighvable @ 3:10 am

Hello all, I am finally home! After a week of soaking up sun on the Carnival Elation, I am back to tell you all about our cruise! Also check out Ashley’s review of her cruise on Simply, Ashley!

We took the kids, my mother-in-law and her boyfriend, Erik’s little brother, and his grandmother. It was a total blast! As Ashley says in her post: if you’re looking to travel, cruising is the way to do it. Once you are on board it is all easy. We went through customs and baggage check which was all a little rushed and crazy with two babies. On the other hand, once you get through all of that, there is very little to worry about. The ship offers non-stop entertainment. Here goes my week in review!

Sunday we spent the evening in New Orleans, and I hated every minute of it. We stayed about 15 minutes from downtown, but explored the French Quarter around Canal Street during the evening. I can’t even explain how stressed and frustrated Erik and I were all night. Countless amounts of people kept approaching us trying to touch our kids or ask for money. Seriously, worst experience ever. I would never go back.

Monday morning we woke up and boarded our ship, the Elation. We spent most of the day hanging out by the pool. Erik and I explored the ship a little to figure out how it all connected and whatnot. Margot loved seeing the pool fill up, and she danced like a mad woman to the house band. Dinner this night was delicious. Their cheesecake was AMAZING. I did have a bit of seasickness, but after I slept I was fine.

Tuesday we woke up to wide open ocean. It’s breathtaking. Jude captured the hearts of both passengers and crew. Seriously, everyone flirted with him. Margot, again, loved the pool and hot tub(which is actually a whirlpool, so it’s just warm not hot). We spent the day enjoying the sun. The Hairy Man contest was HYSTERICAL, and an older man named Gilligan won. Great day.

Wednesday, we ported in Progreso. Erik and I signed up for an excursion to the Dzibilchaltun Mayan ruins. It was amazing. Our tour guides, Luis and Humberto, were incredibly knowledgable and personable. The ruins were just incredible. I have pictures at the end. We also enjoyed a beach break with free food and drinks. We also played in the casino! I won $85 playing blackjack! The boys lost their money.

Thursday we ported in Cozumel. They had to close the gangway because it got so congested. But once off board, the water was a GORGEOUS electric blue. I wish I had more time there. But our whole group boarded a bus to Playa Mia and spent the day on the ocean. We held parrots, ate delicious food, and collected shells. Margot taught herself to swim out of NOWHERE. Talk about amazing. Erik and I went parasailing together, which was so wonderful! After awhile the world just got quiet… Seriously, if you ever have the chance DO it. This day was by far the best. Erik won a ton of money in the casino. Great, great day.

Friday was our last day at sea. We spent it swimming, dancing, eating, and indulging in each other’s company. The highlight of the day was competing in the Last Woman Standing, which was a speed scavenger hunt. Erik’s grandmother and I played against 10 other women. Nonee placed 3rd. I came in 2nd, but I got elbowed off the stairs in the final round. We were chasing down a man in an eye patch. Bummer!

We are already looking to book another cruise. The food was subpar, and I would’ve chosen the buffet lines over the dining room every night. The service was AMAZING. Our bar servers fawned over the kids. Some of the crew even made them little napkin or origami animals. If we hadn’t taken the kids, we would’ve gone to more of the shows, but it was nice to just be slow. I cannot wait to take another cruise. BEST. VACATION. EVER.

This is the front of our ship.

Yep, that’s a leopard and a tiger cub. Margot and I played with them!

Harry Potter Link Up! October 9, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — unbleighvable @ 4:08 am

Yep, linking up with Ashley over at Simply, Ashley. Can’t resist a Harry Potter one! I’ll have to have Erik post his answers as soon as he gets home, because he’s HP crazy too!

1)Your favorite female character? And why.
I’m on the same page with most everyone this week, and I have to say I just love Luna. She is a completely under rated character who should’ve had more time on screen. I think she is just stunningly beautiful, and charming, and clever. Like Hermione, but without the hype.
2)Your least favorite Male character? And why.
Hmmm…lets see…probably the top of my list is Peter Pettigrew. I’m not sure why he tops the list of you know Voldemort, Percy, Lucius Malfoy, etc, etc. But Peter Pettigrew was just irritating. Loathsome. Dirty. Weak.
3) Pick one: Horcrux or Hallows?
Personally, I love the story of the Deathly Hallows. I think it was translated to screen so well, and it just captured my interested more than the story of the horcruxes.
4)Which character do you relate to most?
This is hard to choose because I don’t want to say Hermione. I think she’s probably the easiest choice, here. Other than Hermione, I suppose Luna. She’s very private, a little awkward, clever, and charming. Ha. I just complimented myself.
5)Your favorite pairing of characters?
I’m going to say Lupin and Tonks. Everyone saw the Hermione and Ron thing coming starting the in first book. But Lupin and Tonks made a sweet couple. I love the way they portray their reappearance through the Resurrection Stone with them saying that their son will understand their untimely deaths later on. It was heartbreaking and warming all at the same time.
6)Your favorite professor?
This is tough, for sure. McGonagall is probably the winner here. She’s just BAD ASS. I love that she is motherly, wise, and strong.
7)Bring one character back to life? Who and why?
Okay this is seriously the hardest question on this list. This is a toss up between Snape and Sirius(for my own personal interest it would be Fred…because I’ve always had a thing for the twins. Idk.). I feel like the relationship between Snape and Harry would have been such a blessing on both ends, but the same goes for Sirius. Sirius may have been James’ best friend, but Snape’s relationship with Lilly I feel would have been more insightful for Harry and offered better closure. Idk, it’s debatable.
* Share some of your favorite HP pins, quotes etc…

Who would’ve thought Neville would turn out to be the best looking?

You’re Gonna Miss This October 8, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — unbleighvable @ 4:14 am

So, as I’m winding my way through the posts of bloggers I follow along with other “mom bloggers” I realize how much I am going to miss these days. Every day is one day closer to childhood rather than “toddlerhood”. I know I have my days where Mr. Jude and Miss Margot drive me CRAZY, and I am not the perfect mother. But most days I end thinking “I really just want to snuggle my babies.” I know, I know. I’m with them all day long, and most days I just want a break. But seriously, at night, all I want to do is squeeze and snuggle and kiss my babies. I could suffocate them with my love alone. Haha. But really, why are our kids SO FREAKING CUTE?

Margot is an amazingly bright little girl. At 2.5 years old she is able to sound out words, recognize colors, shapes, numbers, and all sorts of things. I usually loathe gloating moms, but I know that if I were to continue I would be one of those. So anyways, Margot, my dear, sweet, angel girl(yes, I call her that like all the time.) has hit this stage that I just can’t help but be so thankful for. Not too long ago, I would have meltdowns because I couldn’t handle her destroying the house and being a menace, I guess. But as of like two weeks ago, she has blossomed into this wonderful, behaved(for the most part), polite angel. She tells me she loves me out of the blue. She kisses her brother. She shares openly with him. She eats without a fight. She. Is. Perfect. I am in love with this little curly headed blessing, and she doesn’t even understand. Erik and I always talk about how badly we want to just hug and squeeze the kids, but they’re babies. So we can’t. JUST WAIT TIL THEY’RE TEENAGERS. I’ll take my hugging needs out on them then. I know that sometimes I don’t appreciate her being a toddler as much as I should. She is still a 2 year old, and there are definitely times when I could just pull my hair out. But I think that I am starting to realize she is discovering her world, and learning in her own ways. That girl. UGH. She’s just so wonderful. I am half tempted to go play with her curls and rub her back.

ImageIsn’t she gorgeous? She asked to wear this hat, so I don’t know why she’s making this face. Haha.

When we found out that Jude was a boy, I never would have imagined how different parenting him would be. He’s not even a year old yet, and my relationship with him is nothing like how it is with Margot. (Also, as a side note, I burnt my wrist on a hot glue gun. OUCH. So I keep having to stop typing because my wrist hurts. :() Jude is such a character, though. His personality is really starting to develop, and he is just hilarious. He flirts with anyone, mostly women, if they’ll just smile at him. He is a sweet little ball of squishy love. Seriously, his skin is like the softest thing ever. I want a pillow made out of it. Not really, freaks, but it’d be the best pillow ever. Since he’s breastfed, he is the BIGGEST mama’s boy, and I like it that way. I am the end-all-be-all in his world, and it’s wonderful. I can solve all of his problems. For any of you mothers who breastfeed, you know what I mean when they look at you while they nurse and the little look in their eyes is priceless. NO ONE ELSE gets to see that, EVER. It’s incredible. Being a mother to a little boy is so amazing, because I know that everything I teach him will influence the man he is going to be. You know what’s the best about Jude right now? He’s learned to give kisses. Seriously…baby kisses are the best. Drooly, and sometimes bitey, but completely innocent and heart-melting.

Why yes, he IS standing on the dishwasher because he climbed up on it.

I think I need to have Erik come turn me back human, just thinking about my kids turns me into a big pile of Mom-goo. I’ll have to figure out what I’m going to do when they start school. I won’t make it through the day. I don’t want to be pounding on the school doors screaming “give me back my belly fruit!” I’m a helicopter mom, and for right now, that’s okay. I need to just go read Fifty Shades or something to get me back to reality.

ImageAnxiously awaiting dinner.

Social Sunday Link Up! October 7, 2012

I’m working on another post right now, but I figured this would be a nice way break between my next ranting post. Haha.

Sunday Social

This week’s link up is all about fall! Favorite food, recipes, decor, fashion, etc, etc. I think Pinterest is everyone’s best friend for this link up.

Here goes:

I made this pumpkin with Margot!

Margot and I's melted crayon pumpkin!

I’ve been looking for this recipe for YEARS…and finally I can make my own vanilla chai latte.

Who doesn’t love BOOTS? Fall means tall, leather boots. Mmmm… Love.

Also, being totally obsessed with eye colors…Fall makes for some GORGEOUS makeup looks.

Margot’s current career aspiration is to be an astronaut. And we are desperately looking for a Halloween costume like this one…

I think Jude, if we can find one, will be Green Lantern. He’s Erik’s favorite superhero.

Can you say POT ROAST? MMM.

I can’t decide which desserts I want to post, because I have a sweet tooth the size of Godzilla…

But seriously, who from my generation isn’t totally sold on THIS?! Dunkaroos were the SHIZ-NIT.

Dunkaroo Dip. 1 box funfetti cake mix, 1/2 container plain yogurt, 1/2 container of cool whip. Serve with animal crackers, graham crackers. Life. Changing.

Look at this…totally making this for dinner.

Also, as my friend Ashley over at Simply, Ashley said, the smell of fall in Indiana is indescribable. There are no words to explain the way the morning smells in Indiana. It’s earthy, and clean, and home-y. I miss it. I’m not sure that all of Tennessee is like this, but Kingsport just smells disgusting. Eastman Chemical is based here, and the effects are everywhere. My skin is sensitive because of the difference in air quality. It just stinks here. Bleh. So those of you in Indiana who don’t relish all of that amazing tree, pumpkin, apple, baking, clean smell…I hate you. Hahaha. It’s too bad Yankee Candle can’t capture that smell. I want it.

I do have to say that as Erik and I are really settling into parenthood, we LOVE celebrating holidays with the kids. We were both the kind of people who don’t really enjoy the holidays. But now, we are so into decorating the house, and explaining the holidays, and cherishing all of the memories our children are making. We just decorated our balcony with Halloween lights, our pumpkins, and window clings. We have apple and autumn scented candles wafting through the house. I can’t wait for Thanksgiving, because I have recipes up my sleeve.

What do you love about fall?
